Scrolling back through my photos on my phone I came across two images that I had saved from Instagram. I remembered that they were images that my colleague Stuart had posted of a R and a H. I decided, after asking permission, to repurpose these images for my self portrait. The idea behind this is that the R represents the ephemeral aspect of design (The R is taken from lettering on the side of a skip) and also the way that you pick up scruffs and scratches in life which become part of you. The juxtaposition with the H is that design can also be timeless and that like this wooden character we improve with age and become comfortable in our own patina.
