With over 2 billion pairs of jeans produced each year, denim is one of the most popular fabrics worldwide and yet largely unsustainable. One pair of Levi jeans requires a staggering 3,781 litres of water, which equates to nearly 3 years of one person’s daily recommended intake.
My art piece is made from various types of denim that have been hand and machine sewn together. The frame is made from our old back door and other remnants found in the shed. This seascape artwork highlights the amount of water consumed by the denim industry and I hope it focuses the mind on reducing the consumption of denim and fast fashion.
