The BMX bike was freedom handlebars pointed toward anywhere your parents couldn’t see. It was your ticket into a crew of scraped knees and held breath before someone hit the ramp. The BMX taught you that fear and the rush were the same thing, that growing up meant pedalling harder into the space between solid ground and flight.
